5 Favorite Scents For Spring & Summer…

Body Splashes

The last step to my daily morning routine is spritzing on perfume or body splash. During the fall and winter I reach for perfume vs. body splashes 90% of the time. I like having a heavier scent when the weather is chilly. In the past, when spring and summer roll around, I still wear perfume but incorporate my collection of splashes every couple of days.

This spring I’ve pretty much been wearing body splash on a daily basis. I love the light, cool and refreshing aspect of this kind of fragrance vs. a more concentrated  heavier feeling perfume. Another reason why I’ve been so into splashes lately is because I have added 2 new ones to my collection which I have literally been obsessed with. They are included in the 5 favorites that I have been rotating between lately…

Bath & Body Works “Coco Cabana”- This fragrance is no longer available at Bath & Body Works. They tend to bring back some of their older classic scents from time to time during sales around the holidays which is nice. This scent is sweet, fresh and light!

Bath & Body Works “Strawberry Lemonade”  Unfortunately, this is another scent that is not available anymore in the permanent collection. This is one of my all time favorite spring and summer body splashes! It actually smells like strawberry lemonade, the perfect sweet and crisp combo!

Victoria’s Secret “Love Spell”  This is probably the most popular scent that Victoria’s Secret sells in regards to fragrance/lotion. As you can see I have gone through quite a bit of this light, floral and sweet scent.

Victoria’s Secret “Coconut Passion”  Hands down obsession!! I received this as a gift from a friend a couple months ago and have not grown tired of the smell by any means! I blogged about it recently and how wonderful it is! The perfect warm combination of coconut and vanilla. Two of my favorite aromas/flavors!

Victoria’s Secret (Pink/Spring Break) “Passionfruit Hibiscus”  I recently had a gift card for Victoria’s Secret and picked up this body splash. It’s been an obsession as well! It reminds me of how the Escada perfumes smell, which are sweet, fruity, tropical and heavenly. I seriously cant get enough of this!!

Body sprays, splashes and mists are great because they are inexpensive, easily portable and most contain moisturizing ingredients. You can spritz them all over your body without smelling like you doused yourself in perfume. Perfect for the breezy months of spring and sticky hot summers!

Revlon Nearly Naked…

Revlon Nearly Naked

After about a month of pondering whether or not to try out the new Revlon Nearly Naked foundation, I came across a coupon for it and decided that I might as well give it a shot. One of my all time favorite foundations is the Revlon ColorStay which is a fantastic product. With that in mind, and hopes of a similar outcome, I purchased the foundation in the shade “Vanilla”. I ended up going back for the powder the week after.

I’ve been using the foundation for a few weeks now and have classified it as a good, average everyday makeup. The coverage is light to medium yet buildable. I apply it with my fingers which works well for me. The product is not as thick as the ColorStay and doesn’t have as strong of a “paint” aroma. Having SPF 20 or SPF in general is always nice in a foundation, so that is a plus in my book! I didn’t notice any streaking and experienced no difficulty with blending the makeup into my skin. The Vanilla shade does appear too light for me but it actually isn’t a problem since it ends up oxidizing to a perfect match! The best part of this foundation is that it stays on all day and still looks nice after a full work day and trip to the gym! I’m oily and it has yet to slide off my face. We will see how it works in the dog days of summer, but for now it works quite well! One thing that is a bit annoying and messy is the inside of the cap. I always shake my foundation before use and the way the bottle screws onto the lid allows for a lot of product to escape into the top of the lid. Not a huge deal but a pump or a better designed screw cap (interior) would be nice.

I had no interest in the powder until I watched a few YouTube videos about it and people really were loving it so off to the store I went with another coupon in hand. I purchased the color “Fair”. I love the big white compact, maybe because it reminds me of my iPhone! When applying the powder it goes on pretty sheer with zero fallout after swirling the brush in the product. This is fine since I don’t like a overly powdered look. I have been using the little puff that comes in the compact the last few days and prefer the look that it gives vs. my powder brush.

So as a whole, I love the packaging and performance of the foundation and powder and would say that they are average. Not bad, not fantastic, but good! I would recommend them if you are looking for just a basic everyday makeup set.

Pixi…

I’ve always been aware of Pixi cosmetics while shopping at Target but never purchased any of their products. I’m drawn to the pretty light green color of the packaging and of course the cute fairy logo! I think the reason why I’ve been slightly turned off by this line is because when I shop at Target, I have “inexpensive” in mind. The Pixi brand is a bit more high end so I tend not to think of purchasing a higher end cosmetic product while at Target. Another turn off is the fact that they never seem to be very well stocked. I’m always drawn to merchandise that is plentiful and Pixi is not one of those brands that has a full shelf. I seem to think that this is not because they sell out of their products, I just don’t think that they keep a large supply on hand. Either way, the packaging is really what draws me to this brand. Here are the items that I’m interested in…

I love the fact that the concealer and eye liner are both waterproof. I only wear waterproof eye liner since my eyes are sensitive and tend to water. I’ve been on the lookout for a rich dark coppery brown liner so “CopperGlow” is on the top of my Pixi list! Concealer always slides around under my eyes so I’m hoping that the waterproof aspect of the “Wakeup” concealer makes the product stay put vs. being drying which I’m a bit afraid of. The Pixi website says that the “Wakeup” concealer has “anti-aging ingredients, brightening pigments and vitamin E”. Sounds good to me! As for the bronzers, “Summertime” is the shade that I’m in love with. I swatched it today while at Target, and just like the eye shadows  the formulation is silky smooth! I love how the color is a darker shade of brown without being orange. The other two bronzers that I have pictured would be used as blushes if I were to purchase them since they are on the lighter peachy and pink side of the color spectrum.

I’ve looked at the Pixi display at Target quite a bit lately and would love to just go to town and buy several of the products that have caught my eye but I have to stick to my tight wad ways and say no for awhile. I will allow myself a couple of items though!!

Any thoughts on this line?

I’m always on a constant rotation when it comes to the products I use on a daily basis. I tend to get bored with using the same things over and over day after day so I prefer to mix it up often to keep things fresh and interesting!

Although I keep my makeup and beauty products on this constant rotation it’s common for me to grab for a favorite item more than a few days in a row. Here are some of those items that I’ve been reaching for more often lately…
Faves 4 8 13 In general, I have a rather large collection of eye shadow and always end up coming back to my MAC palettes. As you can see they are all pretty much neutral shades which I prefer in terms of eye shadow. Some of my favorites pictured that I have hit pan on are “Patina”, “Satin Taupe”, “Femme Fi”, “Naked Lunch” and “All That Glitters”. MAC shadows are excellent quality and you can’t beat the broad color range to choose from!

I wash my hair every other day and always use some kind of leave in conditioner or treatment after I’m out of the shower. I ended up purchasing the Aveda Damage Remedy which is a daily hair repair treatment that also protects against heat damage as well as aids in detangling. I LOVE the classic Aveda scent that it has as well as how silky my hair is after use. This is the best leave in treatment that I’ve used to date.

One thing that I really get bored with is scents. I have to mix up my perfumes, lotions and body sprays often since I get sick of a smell if I wear it for more than a couple of days in a row. Well, this is NOT the case with my Victoria’s Secret “Coconut Passion” body spray! This is the most wonderful coconut vanilla scent that I have literally been wearing pretty much if not every day for the past month. I’m freaking out over this fragrance. I have other coconut and vanilla scented lotions and body sprays but this one takes the cake!

I always have to have something on my lips and lately it’s been Maybelline Baby Lips in “Twinkle”. I have been applying it under lipstick as well as alone. It’s clear for the most part but does have a very sheer pink shimmer to it. The best part is that it smells like strawberry! I bought 2 additional tubes of Twinkle after I realized that this limited edition flavor was a winner in my book. Gotta keep those lips hydrated!

Last but not least is “Idolize Me” blush by Smashbox. This blush came out with the spring 2013 collection and initially caught my eye because of the cute packaging and debossed hearts and love text on the actual blush. The color is a muted almost dusty pink with a hint of coral. I would basically call this a matte blush but if you look closely there is the tiniest bit of shimmer. This color is different from any other blush that I own hence my frequent use of it lately!

Fruity Lips…

I was in one of those impulsive shopping moods last weekend and ended up purchasing 3 new seasonally appropriate lip products. I’m obsessed with the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters as well as the Maybelline Baby Lips balm. Since my last post which shows my collection of Baby Lips, I decided that since “Coral Crush” is limited edition and I love orange/coral/ peach makeup I might as well grab one before they were gone!

The next two items I purchased were 2 of the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters from the Spring 2013 Pacific Coast Collection by Gucci Westman. I wasn’t even aware of the new collection let alone the fact that it included lip butters! I picked out the obvious shades that I always gravitate towards…nude pink and coral…

I love stocking up on these kinds of moisturizing lip balms and lip butters that give you a beautiful pop of color as well as soft and supple lips. As I mentioned before, in the winter, these alone may not be enough to keep your lips completely hydrated but during the spring and summer they are perfect!

Fresh Spring Candles…

Tags

, , , , , , ,

It’s finally spring! Although the weather hasn’t quite been cooperating lately, it didn’t stop me from making sure I had 3 new spring candles all ready to go once the first day of the season hit. I had just used up the last of my winter candles in the first part of March so the timing was perfect. A fresh new season and fresh new scents to fill my home with! I headed to Bath & Body Works knowing that they were having a candle sale. I also had a coupon which added to the excitement since I’m still practicing being a tightwad this year.

After a fair amount of time sniffing, I decided on these 3 scents…

Spring Candles

I’ve had my eye on the Fresh Bamboo candle for quite awhile so I finally grabbed one! Each one of these smell absolutely divine! One of my favorite things to do on a spring or summer evening is relax with the windows open, a delightful candle lit as the scent mingles with the fresh air coming in from outside and a glass of wine.

Garden Freesia is scented with freesia, violet petals and sandalwood.

Pink Sangria smells of mandarin, apple, pear and sugared berries.

Fresh Bamboo is a mix of bamboo, jasmine, wild grasses and warm oak.

At least while the weather is getting itself situated I can enjoy these candles and look forward to when spring is in full swing!
