Simplified…

Since I will be moving into a new place soon, I’ve been really focusing on trying to minimize my material possessions so I can start fresh. I want to live a clean simple life with quality over quantity as my motto when it comes to the things that I own. Ever since I was little, I have been a collector of the items that I love as well as being somewhat of a pack rat. I have pretty much extinguished my pack rat quality over the past several years which is a plus since I’m trying to lighten my load.

The way that I have been “purging” my load is simply donating what I don’t use or want anymore and using up products before buying anything new. It’s so refreshing to get rid of stuff! For instance, once I run out of a bottle of perfume, lotion or tube of lipstick, I will not purchase another so I can slowly widdle my collections down to only having a select few of each item. Having each room of my house clean with only the necessities out in the open and the rest neatly stowed away is such a lovely thought! I am still living in slight chaos and will not be able to fully manifest my vision until I’m all moved in. Until then, I will be enjoying what I have, using up products and looking forward to when I can move in and have a clean, organized home with no clutter and minimal possessions!

Sunday Funday…

It’s very common to hear people complaining about how much they dislike Sunday evenings because of the simple fact that work, school or both are looming in the very near future. In general, weekends are wonderful but as it gets to be early evening on Sunday, the mood changes. I still tend to find myself having slight, yet quick feelings of dread which come and go on Sunday evenings. I have nothing to fear or worry about but I think that years of having to go to bed early and face school or past horrible jobs the next day has conditioned my brain to automatically go to the dark side temporarily. Although these feelings are fleeting, I have noticed that over the past few years I’ve really started to enjoy Sundays!

I think what I enjoy is that a fresh new week is about to begin. Preparations will begin during the day in the form of picking up any items I may need at the store or simply just running errands. At home I will make sure everything is clean and organized. Laundry is usually on the list of things to do as well. Once my home is in order and dinner has been consumed, an evening walk to relax and contemplate is in store. The soothing night air is always wonderful in the summer and the perfect way to wind down on a Sunday night. Once I get home it’s wine and candle time! Falling asleep at bedtime is usually not too horribly difficult since I make sure that the coffee that I consumed earlier in the day was a dark roast ( less caffeine). Starting the week off right and getting to bed at at good time is a must!

All in all I love the the “cleansing” process that I go through when ending the week on Sunday. I spend the day having fun as I usually try to do on the weekends with added preparations for the week ahead. The time spent mentally and physically preparing helps me ease back into the week with a happy outlook. Monday mornings I always wake up refreshed and feeling ready for my fresh start. A whole new week to eat well, work out and accomplish as much as possible while staying positive!

Dior & Kat Von B…

I received a couple gift certificates recently which didn’t stay in my pocket long since I already knew exactly what I was going to use them for! First off is the Kat Von B Everlasting Face Shaper Blush in the color “Por Vida”. As you can see, it’s a beautiful shade of hot neon coral which I am obsessed with! Secondly, I love my Dior gloss in the color “Sari Pink” #576 and knew that I wanted at least one more Dior gloss for my collection so I picked out the Dior Addict gloss in “Etincelante” #432. Believe it or not, I don’t have a good brown/bronze lip gloss so this one was perfect!

Lately I’ve been reaching for both items consistently and enjoying the beautiful color payoff as well as high end formulation and quality of the products themselves. The packaging is beautiful too which I love!!

Refreshing Summer Meal…

Tags

I don’t think that I’ve ever craved Mexican food as much as I have this summer. Usually my alcoholic beverage of choice is wine but on a recent hot summer night while on a restaurant patio, I decided that an ice cold margarita would hit the spot…

Yum 2One of my all time favorite snacks is chips with guacamole. I love the fact that I don’t have to feel too guilty after eating it since guac is healthy! This was the most creamy and wonderful batch that I had tasted in awhile…

Yum 3A recent obsession has been southwest style chicken salads. I’ve eaten quite a few lately and have no plans on stopping since they are so delicious. The perfect southwest chicken salad in my book contains grilled seasoned chicken, lettuce, cheese, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, tortilla strips, corn, black beans and onions. Usually a salsa ranch or a lime flavored dressing works well to top it off. I always go easy on the dressing since there is already a tad of sour cream as well as cheese on the salad. Here is the salad that I enjoyed the other night…

Yum 1This salad didn’t have all the ingredients which I listed but it was still delicious! Salads are a wonderful, tasty and healthy summer meal if you go easy on the heavier and fattening ingredients!

Happy summer!

Seriously???

Yes, I’m afraid so. It baffles me how much product people must be throwing away everyday because of bad packaging/ faulty design. I’ve blogged about this very topic before because it’s amazing, fun and borderline sad. Behold, my Friday night…

IMG_4101The above image is extreme, a tad bit frightening, yet ridiculously effective after the procedure has been completed…

IMG_4103

I had been using the Ulta brand Extreme Wear Eye Shadow Primer since around January and had been really struggling to get any product out of the bottle with the sponge tip wand. I swear, I rotated, jammed and wedged that wand in the bottle at every possible angle to get the primer out. Recently it had gotten to the point of pure annoyance so I whipped out my handy saw and went to work.

Take a look at the picture above. I was pretty sure this tube was near empty but the amount of product that I dug out was INSANE!! I filled one full sample jar that I had on hand as well as half of another! This primer is fantastic to begin with so I know that I will be using these little jars for at least another 4-5 months. There really was that much primer left! This makes me think of all the people that don’t saw their “empty” bottles in half and throw the spent tube away. What a waste! This has me thinking of mascara bottles too since they are designed the same way.  Something to think about!

When I run out of these two little jars I will be purchasing the squeezable Urban Decay Primer Potion bottle as my next eye shadow primer!

Current Shampoo & Conditioner…

Vidal Sassoon

I’ve been using drugstore shampoo and conditioner for the past few months now since I’m trying to save money. I really don’t notice a difference in my hair when it comes to high to mid end shampoos to be quite honest. Some drugstore shampoos actually seem to work better for me than the ones that cost substantially more!

I always look for products that are volumizing since my hair is thick yet fine, oily and has the tendency to get flat. When blow drying, I always flip my head upside down to infuse it with as much volume as possible. On the days that I don’t blow dry, my hair will air dry with a slight wave on the bottom half and FLAT on top. This is not the look that I want, BUT I’ve found the perfect solution to this problem! This Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Volume shampoo and conditioner! The shampoo lathers so much that it’s almost ridiculous but it makes me feel like my hair is getting very clean. When I blow dry after using this shampoo my hair does have more volume than other shampoos that I’ve used. The trick that has been working for me is washing, conditioning and then avoiding any leave in conditioner. After my hair is completely air dried I will take my Conair cushion brush with ball tip bristles and brush it out completely, flip my head over, shake it, flip back up and am left with extremely volumized, slightly wavy hair! It’s amazing! I’ve tried this technique after using other shampoos and conditioners but have yet to notice the intense volume that I’ve been wanting to achieve till now!

I say give these a try! The price is great and best of all the outcome after your shampoo is fantastic!
